Cobra Performance Boats has over 16,000 square feet of building space dedicated to the manufacturing of our complete line of boats. In order to make the best possible boats for our customers, we keep all our boat molds indoors. This keeps them out of the elements. Creating a Cobra Performance Boat starts with you the customer. You pick out the graphic design and colors you want on your boat. We have an extensive portfolio of designs to choice from. Any color combination, of your choice, is possible. If you wish to create your own design we can work with you to create the boat of your dreams. After the design and colors have been chosen our expert painting team goes into action, taking the design and laying it out in the mold with masking tape. After 4 to 8 hours, depending on the complexity of the pattern, the entire design is taped off. Then the painting process begins. The different colors of gel are sprayed in the mold until the entire mold is painted. This process takes about 6 hours. The gel coat is then left to dry until the next day. You can see why this process is entirely executed indoors. It is this attention to detail that give Cobra Performance Boats their eye catching paint jobs.
The next step in the process is laminating the mold. The whole lamination process is done by hand and only the finest materials are used. With our in-house wood shop all the stringers, transom, and flooring are cut to fit the boat perfectly. The stringers are micro lam stringers and are wet bedded when set in the boat along with the transom. They are then wrapped in bi-directional fiber glass and mat. The floor is then set into place and covered with fiber glass. Once the lamination process is finished the boat is then pulled from the mold. Keep in mind this process alone can take up to eight days. After this, the edges are ground down with a grinder. Now you can see why Cobra Performance Boats has such a strong reputation for quality. The deck is then set on top of the hull and they are bonded together. The next step is sanding the boat to get rid of any imperfections. We use 1500 grit micro fine sand paper. With the sanding finished, the boat is then buffed out with 4 different buffing compounds to bring out the high luster finish that Cobra Performance Boats is famous for. The inside motor compartment is then painted with gel coat. This gives it a clean finished look. The boat is now ready for rigging. Rigging consists of cutting all the the holes for gauges, motor, drive, cleats, stereo, etc. When all this equipment is installed and wired up, then the boat is ready to fitted for the upholstery. No two boats are identical. All upholstery is made to fit the particular boat it will be placed in. While the upholstery is being made the boat is carpeted. After the upholstery installed and the carpet is finished, the boat is almost ready for its new owner. All the upholstery and the stereo equipment is bolted in. The boat is then placed on its proper trailer, and detailed out and ready for its new home. So stop on in, and see how the Cobra Performance Boat of you dreams will be handcrafted.
